Out-of-State Election Money Overwhelming Local Voices: American Promise

NTD News

Former New Hampshire state Sen. Jim Rubens says enormous amounts of out-of-state money, often with unknowable origins, are being used to influence elections across the United States. For example, in this year’s Georgia Senate elections, 92 percent of Democrat Raphael Warnock’s money has come from out of state, and 68 percent of Republican Herschel Walker’s money is from out of state. These figures are from American Promise, an organization advocating for a constitutional amendment that would allow states to place additional limits on the amount of money candidates can raise from out of state.
NTD sat down with American Promise board member Jim Rubens at the 2022 ALEC meeting of state legislators in Atlanta, Georgia.
