US Army to Fall Short of Recruiting Goal: John Mills Says Obesity Problem Stems From Societal Breakdown

The U.S. Army is expecting to fall short of its recruiting goal again this year. Army Secretary Christine Wormuth told Congress they are doing everything they can, but they won’t hit the 65,000 new soldier benchmark. Last year the branch fell short of its 60,000 recruit goal by 15,000. Meanwhile, experts say the Chinese regime is preparing for a high-tech regional war. NTD speaks to retired Colonel John Mills, who is also a senior fellow at the Center for Security Policy, to discuss the causes and ramifications of the United States’ recruitment problem and how China’s ambitions play into this. Mills says more preparatory courses, like the Army launched last August, only address the symptoms of the problem and not the root cause. That’s in reference to the recruiting challenges posed by high body fat content among 17-to-24-year-old Americans. Mills points to a societal breakdown that has led to youth developing an obesity problem.
