A Mother Shares the Story of Her Son's Heroin Overdose

Cece Brown was at the White House on March 1 to share the tragic story of her son's death in April 2014. Brown and her husband have since started Ryan's Hope, an organization focused on raising awareness about addiction and overdose, and to advocate for recovery. Brown, from Charleston, West Virginia, spoke at the White House Opioid Summit led by Kellyanne Conway, counselor to the president. The summit consisted of two panels; the first about prevention, recovery, and treatment; and the second about law enforcement and interdiction. Brown's story is sadly only one of thousands in America. Ryan was 27.
