student who refused to participate in apparent Nazi salute speaks out

A viral photo of about 60 Wisconsin high school boys allegedly shows many giving a Nazi salute. But the photographer said that the picture, taken in spring 2017 in Baraboo, was actually ill-timed. The photo was taken before they headed to prom. Pete Gust, who owns Wheel Memories, said he asked the teens to wave goodbye to their parents. “I didn’t tell them to salute anything,” he said, calling the characterization “reprehensible.” One of the students said he wasn’t sure if his classmates were making a Nazi gesture. Officials with the school district and police department are investigating the picture.
