NYC's Biggest Infrastructure Project to Cost Almost $1 Billion More Than Expected

The MTA’s East Side Access project has hit another snag. MTA and Amtrak now say the project will require close to an additional $1 billion. The price increased from $10.2 billion to $11.1 billion due to unforeseen construction obstacles that Amtrak is partly responsible for, MTA says. When complete, the project will connect LIRR to Grand Central Terminal. It is estimated to serve 160,000 Long Island commuters daily. 75% of the new 8-mile track has already been completed.
