Citizen Voice - 'True U.S. History' with Dennis Jamison | Episode 7 on 4/12/21 - This week’s episode continues with the English settlement of James Fort that evolves into Jamestown, and the history from the Indian perspective, as well as the European perspective, is shared. This episode goes into the foundation of building a settlement that included building a fortress, which also involved cutting down the trees and clearing the land for planting crops and for individual dwellings. The explanation of history helps people get a more personal conception of the interconnection between these two groups of peoples. The initial effort of the James Fort was based upon the Virginia Company’s plans to obtain wealth from this grand opportunity. Also introduced in this episode is the development of the indentured servant position of people being bound to labor for a period of time in exchange for receiving land after their servitude. Additionally, the difference in understanding of land ownership is examined because it reveals an important distinction between the two peoples. The introduction of the crop that saved the colony as well as the man that was able to hold the struggling colony together.
