The Nightingale Apartments Are Coming Out of the Ground - Nightingale Village ep02

Nightingale Village is an evolution of Nightingale Housing, taking the ideas and philosophies of a single apartment building and applying it to a precinct scale. At a precinct scale, how can you build community and build sustainability? That’s what the Duckett Street precinct is proving. Construction is well underway at Nightingale Village in Brunswick, led by Hacer, despite the challenges that COVID-19 presented during Melbourne’s lockdown. All the holes have been dug, footings poured, and the apartment buildings are coming out of the ground. At the time of filming back in December, the suspended concrete floors were in the process of being poured. There was a considerable break between site visits due to COVID-19 and Melbourne’s response by going into a Stage 4 Lockdown. This lockdown legally prevented me from visiting the construction site to film. From the last visit to now publishing, December was spent playing catch-up with shoots, as well as the holiday break.
