Father Who Lost Child Tells Trump: 'I remember the hug you gave me'

President Donald Trump introduced Steve Wikoff to the stage during the White House Opioid Summit on March 1. Trump said Wikoff, a New York City real estate developer, has been “one of my great friends over the years.” Trump then handed the microphone to Wikoff, who recalled Trump’s support in 2011 when his son, Andrew, died of a drug overdose. “I remember the hug you gave me when ... I felt all was lost,” Wikoff said. Wikoff said he was grateful that Trump’s administration is taking up the battle against opioids. “I always felt hopeless before you were elected,” he told Trump. The White House Opioid Summit, led by Kellyanne Conway, counselor to the president, consisted of two panels; the first about prevention, recovery, and treatment; and the second about law enforcement and interdiction.
