J6 Detainee Denied Proper Access to Attorneys, Evidence, to Prepare Defense: Lawyer

The Nation Speaks
The events of January 6, 2021 at the U.S. Capitol will surely go down as one of the most controversial in U.S. history—and there’s still a lot of that history to write. There are at least 15,000 hours of video footage prosecutors and defense teams are dissecting to piece together exactly how the day got so out of hand. A single person’s actions span over hours and may tell an inconsistent story. The FBI made over 725 arrests, with more still possible. The January 6 Commission is doing its work—of trying to get to the bottom of who’s to blame.  At the same time, another layer of controversy has been added on, over the allegations of gross mistreatment of many in pre-trial detention. Jacob Lang, arrested January 16, 2021, is one of them.   Lang’s lawyer, Steven Metcalf, and father Ned Lang describe a year-long saga of official complaints they’ve made about Lang’s “abnormal” treatment in the D.C. jail. Complaints include extensive solitary confinement; no access to family; arbitrary punishment; lack of adequate access to attorneys and materials needed to prepare a defense; monitored communications; no access to a haircut or shave for a year, and more.
