The hot-button subject of college athletes’ name-image-likeness (NIL) deals—and what kind of federal regulation is needed to ensure fairness—has caught the attention of Congress. At a hearing on Wednesday, one witness—Florida State softball player Kaley Mudge—testified positively about the NIL opportunities the state has given her. Yet, Mudge says each state having its own laws has created plenty of confusion and an unbalanced playing field. Another witness was the executive director and founder of the College Football Players Association. He said that NIL wasn't enough.
