Some 4.6 million annual passengers were
estimated take NYC ferries by 2023
But the latest figures show
there could be as many as 9 million.
[[Bill de Blasio, New York City Mayor]] [ 6:27-6:33]
“We have put in the new executive budget
$300 million in capital funding.”
The money will go to increasing the capacity
of the ferries
improving piers and docks
and building a new homeport for ferry repair.
over the next 5 years.
This spring and summer
more high-capacity boats will be added
that can hold 350 people.
Boats that ran every 25 - 60 minutes
are set to run every 20 - 30 minutes.
Currently, the ferries travel from Rockaway, Astoria,
Williamsburg, and South Brooklyn to Manhattan.
Two new routes are expected to open late this summer:
Soundview in the Bronx and the Lower East Side in Manhattan.
