Subways Breath a Sigh of Relief as de Blasio Expands the Ferry System

[[Bill de Blasio, New York City Mayor]] [ 6:27-6:33] “We have put in the new executive budget $300 million in capital funding.” The money will go to increasing the capacity of the ferries improving piers and docks and building a new homeport for ferry repair. over the next 5 years. This spring and summer more high-capacity boats will be added that can hold 350 people. Boats that ran every 25 - 60 minutes are set to run every 20 - 30 minutes. Currently, the ferries travel from Rockaway, Astoria, Williamsburg, and South Brooklyn to Manhattan. Two new routes are expected to open late this summer: Soundview in the Bronx and the Lower East Side in Manhattan.
