China's global outreach has hit yet another bumper as military conflict continues in Sudan. Clashes erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces and a paramilitary group on April 15, resulting in the deaths of nearly 500 civilians. The North African country has been a major receiver of China's Belt and Road Initiative—a multi-trillion dollar infrastructure outreach project. It's often seen as a way for China to gain control of critical systems overseas. Over the years, China has poured more than $20 billion into the nation's infrastructure, including the oil sector, ports, roads, bridges, and power grids. Chinese investments in Sudan are now being dealt a major blow amid the conflict.
