During the Obama administration, a controversial policy was put in place to establish government control over the Internet by classifying broadband as a utility. This was net neutrality. The policy was dropped when Donald Trump was president, but just recently, it was quietly restored. The Federal Communications Commission brought it back in a 3–2 vote, restoring policies of equity over online traffic.
