‘Media Is An Enabler In These Mass Shootings’—Hunter Pollack, Brother of Parkland Shooting Victim

How does a college student deal with his younger sister being killed in a mass shooting? What if your understanding of the world is different from the prominent narratives found in the mainstream media? And just how are mass shootings politicized, in the eyes of 22-year-old school safety advocate Hunter Pollack? This is American Thought Leaders 🇺🇸, and I’m Jan Jekielek. On February 14, 2018, Hunter Pollack’s life irrevocably changed. He had just passed his math test with flying colors, with his sister Meadow’s support and encouragement. But that day, a gunman opened fire at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, and killed seventeen people, including Meadow. Hearing about the shooting, their father Andrew started searching for information about Meadow. He happened to be wearing a Trump 2020 t-shirt that day, and a picture of him spread on the internet. In the days following the shooting, Meadow’s family was relentlessly attacked for their political views. Today, Hunter has moved from being just another college student to becoming a vocal activist for school safety, while completing his undergraduate studies at Florida State University.
