Documentary Filmmaker Impressed With Shen Yun's Connection to Audience

Celeste Li
Yelena Demikovsky, Russian born American filmmaker and founder of Red Palette pictures, was inspired and impressed with the production and felt the performance really connected with the audience. "I mean there's a connection here, a lot of this with the audience as well," said Demikovsky. "You feel communication." "It’s perfectly done, connection with the screen, the animation itself, and the transition from the stage into the screen," she said. "It really works perfectly, so it's really a lot of it, it's a spectacle and you really enjoy the spectacle." Demikovsky had a positive opinion on the overall quality of the production. "It gives you a great mood and burst of energy," she said. Music Instructor Impressions Sophie Arbuckle, a pre-college strings teacher at Juilliard School, felt it was a unique experience with its own language. "Beautifully done, very spectacular, and uplifting," said Arbuckle. "But it’s its own language, it’s its own, you really get into the language, and its own experience." "There's a certain, really striving for some type of perfection, that is kind of spectacular," she said. "Very uplifting. Very lightening." Artistic Expression Artist C. Bang was touched by the expression of the performers and impressed with the technical aspects. "I love the mixture of the digital, as well as the dancing," said Bangs. "And I love the mythology with the folklore and the different ethnic dances." "It was really extraordinary. It was breathtaking in many ways, very, very touching and very heartwarming." The performance left documentary filmmaker Demikovsky inspired and eager to return to her work. "The colorfulness, the imagination of the performers and you could actually see that," said Demikovsky. "It's very inspiring to continue tomorrow and you really want to work, and I'm glad I'm in film, and it is also inspiring."
