Defense Secretary Mattis Visits Troops at Border With Homeland’s Nielsen

Della Sun
Hello and welcome to the Epoch Times Evening News, I’m your host Angela Anderson. The Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis and Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, visited troops at the Mexican border on November 14. Mattis was informed by a top military officer on how troops are supporting the Customs and Border Protection. The officer told Mattis “The purpose is to give CBP personnel”. Mattis said he doesn’t expect the five-thousand nine hundred troops who are deployed across California, Arizona and Texas to have any direct contact with the migrants. He also said an extra eleven hundred troops could be deployed. President Donald Trump and Mattis ordered the troops to the border as multiple caravans holding up to ten-thousand migrants are approaching the border. In relation to the number of media reports Mattis told the troops to stay focused on the mission, he said “If you read all that stuff, you’ll go nuts”. “Right now the only thing we’ve been asked for is to put in obstacles provide transportation and to provide housing for border,” The troops had used concertina wire as an obstacle to help stop the caravans from breaking through. Kirstjen Nielsen thanked the troops for their support saying “ We are honored to partner with you” Mattis said the first phase of the mission should be accomplished within ten days.
