Ice swimmers in Russia's Baltic Sea enclave of Kaliningrad embraced freezing temperatures to compete in minus 10 degree Celsius temperature in an outdoor pool over the weekend (February 24 and 25).

Seventy-three people as young as 11 and as old as 70 participated, whilst dozens of spectators watched and kept warm dancing and cheering in the sidelines.

Mulled wine was also at hand to ward of the chill factor.

Ice swimming is not uncommon in Russia and there are many clubs catering to the winter sport as it is widely regarded as a way to improve one's health.

The U.N. Security Council has approved a 30-day humanitarian ceasefire.

The U.N. vote came as airstrikes battered Syria's eastern Ghouta region.

The U.S. ambassador laid into Russia for delaying the vote for several days.

Russia is an ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

U.S. AMBASSADOR TO THE UNITED NATIONS, NIKKI HALEY, SAYING:
"Every minute the council waited on Russia the human suffering grew (...) We may not know the faces that we are talking about. We may not know their names, or these people. But they know us and we all failed them this week."

The truce allows for aid deliveries and medical evacuations.

It is not being observed by terrorists groups ISIS or al-Qaeda.

And Iran, which has backed militia groups supporting Assad, may not be playing along.

Iran’s military chief said attacks would continue on areas “held by terrorists.”

And there are reports of fighting on several frontlines between the rebels and government forces.

Past attempts at a truce have also failed.

The air strikes in Syria are at one of the heaviest points in the 7-year war.

At least 500 people, including more than 120 children, have been killed in the last week.
