The Hong Kong pro-democracy movement has not stopped amid the global CCP virus pandemic.
On April 26, hundreds gathered at the Cityplaza mall (Taikoo Shing shopping mall) to peacefully protest.
Some shouted “Five demands, not one less,” “Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times!” while others called for the release of pro-democracy activists.
Shortly after, uniformed Hong Kong police officers ordered people to leave, citing lockdown orders put in place in response to the CCP virus pandemic. As police attempted to disperse the crowd, tensions quickly escalated.
Outside a nearby restaurant, police verbally abused and threatened to pepper spray a couple waiting to be seated, according to the Hong Kong Apple Daily.
Police officers were seen dragging people to an alley, according to footage captured by a witness.
The assistant of an elected member of the Eastern District Council, Andrew Chiu Ka-yin, fainted after he was pushed to the ground by police officers, according to footage captured by local media.
Last year, an attacker bit off part of Chiu’s ear and he later had to undergo reconstructive surgery. Hong Kong police mocked Chiu after the attack.
On April 26, some residents played "May the Glory return to Hong Kong" in a residential community. After the performance, people applauded and some shouted "Liberate Hong Kong! Revolution of our times!"
