Rainbow Bright Daycare Trafficked Workers, Stole $8.5 Million in Wages- Attorney General
Owners of a California care facility were charged with human trafficking and wage theft on Sept. 7. The 4 were charged with 59 criminal counts. They allegedly forced their workers to work in poor conditions for low pay. [Sound bite] [Xavier Becerra, California Attorney General] So the workers were forced to live on the premises, they were forced to work up to 24 hours a day, they slept on the floors and in garages. They were locked outside sometimes in the rain when the owners were not home. The attorney general said they estimate unpaid wages and overtime to total $8.5 million. Authorities also seized 14 illegal assault weapons during the investigation. Three of those were "ghost guns," which are rifles without serial numbers. Ghost guns allow individuals to bypass background checks and registration regulations.
