Trump to chair U.N. Security Council meeting on Iran
The US ambassador to the United Nations has announced that President Trump will chair a meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the situation in Iran. Nikki Haley told a gathering of reporters that the meeting will meeting to address Iran's "violations of international law and the general instability Iran sows throughout the entire Middle East region." Haley also said South Korea and the United States continue to work toward denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula and address violations of sanctions by the North Korean regime, Russia and China. On the topic of Syria, Haley stressed that the United States will not accept another chemical attack in the country. She also answered a question from a reporter who questioned whether President Trump had ordered the assassination of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, as claimed by Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward in an upcoming book. "I have not once ever heard the President talk about assassinating Assad," Haley said.
