Ahead of their White House pardon, turkeys relax at a luxury hotel
The luckiest turkeys in the country strutted and pecked their way around a luxury Washington hotel on Monday (November 19), one day ahead of their reprieve as someone's holiday meal. Peas and Carrot, as the birds are called, were among a group of 50 raised by Anabaptist Hutterites on a South Dakota farm. After being chosen for their looks and personality, the two travelled to the nation's capital where they will rest for a few days at The Willard InterContinental Hotel ahead of the ceremony. President Donald Trump will pardon one of the birds on Tuesday at the annual White House Thanksgiving turkey pardon held in the Rose Garden. Peas and Carrot will then live the rest of their lives at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, 260 miles (418 km) away from the hustle and bustle of Washington.
