KFC closes most of its UK stores due to chicken shortage

Fastfood chain KFC closed hundreds of its stores in Britain on Feb. 19, due to a shortage of chicken.   The problem arose over the weekend after KFC switched its delivery contract to DHL. The switch forced the majority of KFC’s 900 stores to shut down.   DHL blamed the delivery delays on "operational issues."   Customers have mixed reactions to the closure of the KFC stores.    "My reaction is angry, sad, and disappointed. (And hungry?) Very Hungry."   "It's a big chain so it does seem unbelievable really. All the chicken, there are farmers, surely there's enough chickens? I don't know. (LAUGH)"   "It just seems amazing. I thought everything was pretty much automated these days. You know, as they use chicken, more is ordered so obviously something's gone seriously wrong on a computer system or a manual error or somewhere I would've thought for this to happen. I'm sure they're investigating right now." DHL said they are working with KFC and their partners to rectify the situation as soon as possible. Credit: Reuters
