Sydney Students Gather at Martin Place to Protest Climate Change

2018-12-03 06:19
Sydney students were among the thousands of young people around Australia who went on strike on Friday, November 30, to protest the government’s inaction on climate change. Students skipped school and gathered at Martin Place to campaign for a greater political focus on addressing climate change. Special mention was made in opposition to the Adani coal mine after it was announced on November 29 that the controversial site would go ahead. A student addressed the crowd saying: “I want to meet with my local member of parliament and ask her to care about young people’s future more and I want her to take us seriously by saying she’ll agree to 100 percent renewables, supporting solar panel farms and, to stop new coal mines like the Adani coal mine.” “If they don’t listen to us we need to keep acting, rallying, talking to people, doing everything we can until they do care about our future,” the student said. Students in Melbourne, the Gold Coast and other parts of the country also protested for the cause. Credit: School Strike 4 Climate via Storyful
