NRA files lawsuit challenging Washington gun safety Initiative 1639

Chen Tim
The NRA has challenged the legality of a voter- approved gun control initiative in Washington State. The gun rights organization filed a lawsuit against the initiative, which would restrict gun ownership. The restrictions include increasing the minimum age to buy semi-automatic assault rifles from 18 to 21. The suit says the measure impairs rights guaranteed by the First, Second, and Fourteenth Amendments. “I-1639 violates the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens,” said the NRA’s Chris Cox. Gun vendors and owners across the state joined the lawsuit, as did the Second Amendment Foundation.
