USS Ronald Reagan arrives in Hong Kong

2018-11-21 16:44
The American aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan arrived in Hong Kong on Wednesday (November 21) for a port visit, along with three other U.S. Navy vessels. The visit took place two months after a U.S. navy ship, the USS Wasp, was denied a port visit to Hong Kong by China amid a trade war between Beijing and Washington. In the same month, a Chinese warship came close to collision with an American vessel in the disputed South China Sea, during what U.S. Vice President Mike Pence called a "freedom of navigation" exercise. China's President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump are expected to meet at the end of November for talks, possibly to mark the beginning of a de-escalation of the ongoing Sino-U.S. trade war.
