California--13 dead including gunman in shooting at California bar
A sheriff early Thursday (11/8) said several people have been killed, including a sheriff's sergeant and the gunman, after a shooting inside a crowded Southern California bar late Wednesday night. Ventura County police said a man in black opened fire with his semi-automatic pistol inside the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks. Hundreds of people--including students from California Lutheran University, Pepperdine University and California State University Channel Islands were inside for the country music event when shots rang out a little before 11:30 pm. Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said Sergeant Ron Helus responded to the scene and was shot after he entered the building. Helus died at a hospital early Thursday morning. Authorities have not said how the gunman died. Dean says around 10 other people were wounded. Witnesses tearfully recalled the fun they were having before the shooting began. People used bar stools to break windows and help people out. One man recounted pulling an unresponsible officer to safety.
