Amazighs Fight to Keep Centuries-Old Carpet Industry Alive
The 11th annual Amazigh carpet festival has begun,
but the number of tourists has diminished greatly.
This has caused many to abandon
the centuries old Amazigh traditional.
Carima, Carpet Weaver, Amazigh
"I learned this craft at home from my mother and
grandmother who both worked in this before.
Today I depend on this work to support
my family and provide for my children.”
Zakia, Carpet Weaver, Amazigh
"We need help, we need raw material and we need
to attract girls back into this industry.
But unfortunately, this type of
weaving no longer pays off.”
An exhibition has been organized to attract more
tourists, in hopes of gaining support for the craft.
