Amazighs Fight to Keep Centuries-Old Carpet Industry Alive

The 11th annual Amazigh carpet festival has begun, but the number of tourists has diminished greatly. This has caused many to abandon the centuries old Amazigh traditional. Carima, Carpet Weaver, Amazigh "I learned this craft at home from my mother and grandmother who both worked in this before. Today I depend on this work to support my family and provide for my children.” Zakia, Carpet Weaver, Amazigh "We need help, we need raw material and we need to attract girls back into this industry. But unfortunately, this type of weaving no longer pays off.” An exhibition has been organized to attract more tourists, in hopes of gaining support for the craft.
