Regime Airstrikes Escalate in Idlib Countryside, Provoking Fears in Population Centers

2018-08-11 04:13
Syrian regime forces carried out airstrikes on opposition-held areas in south Idlib province on August 10, according to local activists. At least three people were injured in heavy bombardment by the Syrian regime on Tamana town in Idlib province. The anti-regime-leaning Enab Baladi news, based in Darayya, said helicopters dropped more than 30 barrel bombs and naval mines, and shot dozens of missiles on southern Idlib towns. This footage, shared by a local activist, shows the moment of strikes on Tamana town. The “unprecedented” escalation of airstrikes on Idlib displaced families from some areas in Idlib countryside, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported. UN Special Adviser Jan Egeland described a “tremendous worry” the conflict would move to Idlib province and other non-government-controlled areas in Syria’s northwest. “Idlib and other areas, including Afrin and Azaz, are home to some 4 million people, including 3 million women and children,” Egeland said.
