US Submarine Breaks Through Arctic Ice in Spectacular Display of Operational Potential
A US submarine broke through Arctic ice in a spectacular display of the underwater craft's operational capability.
The video shows the Los Angeles class fast-attack USS Hartford puncturing the frozen surface of the Arctic Ocean, on March 21 for ICEX 2018, a five-week Navy exercise to assess operational readiness and increase experience in the region, according to the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
The ICEX exercises also serve to advance understanding of the Arctic environment, and
develop relationships with other services, allies and partner organizations.
Watch the video, which shows the submarine penetrate the ice cap and crew members emerge.
