Police Arrest 3 Men in Counter-Terrorism Operation in Melbourne

2018-11-20 01:52
Police arrested three men in a counter-terrorism operation in Melbourne on the morning of Tuesday, November 20. Victoria Police, the Australian Federal Police, the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO), and other agencies executed four warrants, during which three men, who were 30, 26 and 21 years old and from Dallas, Campbellfield and Greenvale respectively, were arrested for allegedly undertaking preparations for planning a terrorist act in Melbourne. Police said in a press conference on Tuesday that the trio, all Australian citizens of Turkish background, had their passports cancelled in 2018. They were reportedly “inspired” by Islamic State and were “energised” by the deadly Bourke Street attack last week, according to a Sky News journalist. They will appear in court later on Tuesday.
