In high-level talks, U.S. presses China to halt militarization of South China Sea

Chen Tim
We seek peaceful resolutions of all disputes in the South China Sea. Through candid discussions, we sought ways to lessen tension, maintain open lines of communications between our militaries, and reduce the risk of miscalculation. We made clear the United States will continue to fly, sail and operate wherever international law allows. The US commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific, one that is underpinned by a rules-based international order and regional stability is unwavering.
