Lawyer Sentenced to 14 Years After Exposing Corrupt Official in China’s Hebei

The Epoch Times
The Epoch Times
A lawyer from Hebei Province who exposed a local official for corruption was recently sentenced to 14-and-half-years in prison on charges of “extortion and blackmail.” Wu Quan was handed the sentence by the Qiaoxi District People's Court in Hebei's Zhangjiakou city, Chinese media reported on June 22. He has been held in a pretrial detention since December 2017. Wu’s former defense lawyer, Huang Hanzhong, said the sentence was based on false charges. Huang told NTD that Wu’s family hired a new lawyer for the trial and he was notified of the verdict by the family. He said the case is a sham.
