The storm surge from Hurricane Florence flowed past beachfront properties onto main roads in Avon, North Carolina, on Thursday, September 13.
Wind, rain and waves began to lash the North Carolina coastline on Thursday, with Florence expected to make landfall early on Friday morning.
More than 1.7 million people in Virginia, North and South Carolina were told to evacuate their homes.
These videos show the storm surge rising past homes on Ocean View Drive in Avon. Other locals reported the surge had washed from the ocean right out to the highway at high tide.
