Shooting at Long Beach senior care facility leaves one firefighter dead, one wounded

SWAT officers responded to a Long Beach senior home in California early Monday (6/25) after reports of an explosion and gunfire. Long Beach Public Information Officer, Jake Heflin says that as crews were checking on additional fires, someone shot two firefighters. Helfin said they were immediately taken to a local trauma center. One firefighter has been listed in critical condition and the other with a non-life threatening condition. The Covenant House, a high-rise residential senior living complex was surrounded by emergency crews. Helflin said residents were evacuated to safe locations as police surveyed the area. According to a witness, a shooter opened fire on responding firefighters and paramedics. Long Beach Police Department Media Relations Director Brad Johnson said the scene is no longer an active shooter situation. And he said authorities believe they have the person responsible for the shooting in custody. No other injuries were reported.
