Thousands of Tourists Stranded Due to Heavy Rain and Mudslides

The Epoch Times
The Epoch Times
Nu Jiang, or Nu River, is known as the Salween in Burma. It begins its journey at 4,000 meters above sea level in the Himalayas and runs through the mountains of Yunnan Province in China. The Nu runs parallel to the upper reaches of the Mekong and Yangtze rivers in an area designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for its rich biodiversity. Days of heavy rain caused mudslides, landslides and damaged roads in regions where the Nu River runs through in Yunnan. Thousands of tourists have been reportedly stranded by the disaster that killed one person, injured two people and several people have been missing since. In Gongshan, a region bordering Burma, local telecommunications have been disrupted and power was off.
