VA_Lawsuits Jiang Zemin_did you know

Celeste Li
Once the powerful head of the Communist Party. He rose to power after supporting the bloody 1989 crackdown in Tiananmen Square. Ten years later, he launched a new brutal campaign—this time, targeting Falun Gong. But recently, Jiang Zemin has been facing legal action. In 2009, Spain’s National Court issued an arrest warrant for Jiang Zemin for genocide and the persecution of Falun Gong. In the same year, an Argentine Federal Judge ordered the arrest of Jiang Zemin. Taking action against Jiang inside China is harder, and it’s also risky for Chinese citizens to get involved. But that seems to be changing since May 1st, 2015. That’s when a new Chinese policy dictated that “all cases filed according to law must be heard and dealt with.” Many Chinese citizens took this as a green light to file legal complaints against Jiang. Today, more than 200,000 Falun Gong practitioners and their families have filed complaints with China’s legal equivalent of the Supreme Court and Department of Justice. They’re calling on the Chinese legal system to bring Jiang to justice for his crimes against Falun Gong, including abuse of power, assault, unlawful detention, and homicide.
