Julie the Tortoise Celebrates 50th Birthday in Pakistani Zoo
Dressed in multi-colored shawls, 50-year-old Julie, a sulcata tortoise in Pakistani zoo, crawled coyly among dozens of animal lovers who gathered on Aug. 10th to celebrate her golden jubilee.
A small party was arranged in Karachi zoo, so that the 150 kg (330 pound) birthday 'girl' could enjoy the party with her fellow pet friends, including a small Afghan tortoise draped with red ribbon that arrived at the party with its owners.
Julie was showered with presents and birthday cards and after the cake-cutting ceremony, some pet owners held a catwalk show.
Sulcata tortoises, which can live for more than 70 years, are native to north central Africa but they adapt well to different environments. Land-dwelling reptiles with a shell, they are mainly herbivores.
