Deputy and Bystanders Come to Rescue of Driver Trapped in Burning Truck

A sheriff’s deputy and passers-by came to the rescue of a man who was pinned in a flaming truck as it filled with smoke after a crash on Interstate 20, near the city of Terrell, on December 4. Dramatic bodycam footage from Kaufman County sheriff’s deputy Conner Martin shows a number of civilians gathered to help the trapped driver who had been on his way to see his son in hospital when he crashed his pickup truck into the back of an 18-wheeler. Martin entered the vehicle to try to free the driver’s leg which was stuck under the dashboard as a civilian tackled the fire that was burning under the hood of pickup. The trapped driver can be heard to say in the video that his feet are on fire. The driver was freed from the cabin of the truck as another civilian threw water on his leg. He was later taken to hospital with a serious leg injury. Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office wrote on their Facebook page that Martin had “proven he has the heart of a servant and the bravery of a lion.”
